Nissa Ricafort is one of the three founding partners of Broyles
Kight & Ricafort, LLP. Nissa has assisted many employers and
individuals maneuver through the various federal and state laws
governing the employment of individuals. She has drafted and
reviewed employee handbooks, employee contracts, and employee
non-competition/restrictive covenant agreements. She also has
provided guidance to employers on EEO compliance, harassment and
discrimination issues, employee termination and severance issues
and wage and hour disputes.
In addition to her employment law
work, Nissa has considerable experience assisting families through
difficult transitions, including dissolution proceedings, custody
modifications, child support disputes, paternity actions, child
abuse and neglect (CHINS) actions and adoptions. Her practice
philosophy is to achieve the best result for her client with as
little emotional and financial expense as possible. Although she
has successfully settled numerous domestic relations cases through
mediation, she also has tried domestic relations cases to a
favorable result for her clients.
Prior to forming her own law
firm, Nissa was an associate with Lewis & Kappes, P.C., a full
service law firm in Indianapolis. While at Lewis & Kappes, Nissa
primarily worked with small businesses and individuals regarding
employment law issues and with families concerning domestic
relations issues. She also worked on various litigation matters
in federal, state and county court. Her litigation experience
includes trial practice and preparation, motions practice,
discovery, pleadings, and arbitration.
Nissa also served as a law clerk
to the Honorable David F. Hamilton, a United States District Court
Judge for the Southern District of Indiana. While a law clerk for
Judge Hamilton, Nissa assisted in drafting numerous legal opinions
addressing a variety of legal issues. A significant amount of the
opinions concerned employment law issues.
Nissa has been a presenter at
legal seminars, including ìIndiana Family Law Practice for
Paralegals,î a seminar sponsored by Half Moon, LLC, and
ìMisconception Jeopardy,î a seminar on misconceptions in domestic
relations law sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Indiana.
In addition to her private legal
work, Nissa has volunteered with Child Advocates, Inc. as a
guardian ad litem for children involved in child abuse or neglect
proceedings. She also has served as a volunteer for the Humane
Society of Indianapolis.
Nissa
graduated cum laude from DePauw University and received her
law degree, summa cum laude, from the Indiana University
School of law in Indianapolis. She and her husband Michael reside
in Indianapolis. |
